Storybird

Hello again!



During lunch today I made half of a story on Storybird. The story is called Merry Christmas. The story's about a boy called Andrew that is about to turn eight and he LOVES Christmas. I had to make an account on Storybird before I could start. The story is called Mery Christmas, by Alice5667, so if you ever go on Storybird - look out for it! Next week if I am finished my story I might put the last few pages on my blog. Here are the pages I have done so far:

Planting

Hello again!!!



Today it was a very busy day because every single child at enrich went to Waihopai river to plant trees and flax bushes. My buddy was Reina. We planted about 23 plants. We were making a difference to the world. The Waihopai river used to be just mud but now theres thousands of  plants there. There were four girls that organised this planting thing. Their names were Hannah, Hannah, Kate and Madison.

Airport

This morning the Enrich students had to present a keynote that we have worked on to a lady called Chloe Scala from the Invercargill Airport. I am on the  chalkboard/blackboard group.  This morning we had a practice and Katie was acting as Chloe. My favourite part was when our group went up. The people in my group's name were... Reina, Anna, Neave and Me. Here is a blackboard photo.  We think that putting blackboards upstairs with the really thick chalk will be a great way to keep children entertained until their flight arrives, or is ready to leave.

Environment project

The enrich children are doing an environment project. The environment isn't just the living things around us, it's also where we are and where we live. My environment project is at the airport. My group and I are trying to put in a blackboard for the children to play on while they are waiting for the plane to arrive. Our whole idea of this is because we want to make it more fun for the kids so they don't annoy the other costumers by running up and down the stairs.

Wilson game

Hello.

Today I played a Wilson game called Bullseye. We had to throw some beanbags into hoola hoops. My group first got  the points of 18 then we went down to the score of 9 then at the end we got the total of 0.

 Today we have also looked at an Envirnment video and I couldn't bear to look at this green stuff in the water.  We watched it to get us thinking about the Environment being more than just our own personal space. Everyone thought that the green stuff in the water was sewerage.

Fibonacci

This morning I went to maths with Alana. We are doing the Fibonacci sequence. The pattern goes like this, 0, 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 34, 55, 89. I can go further but it would be too long because it never ends. There is an easy way to figure the sequence out and that is to go, 0+1=1 and you add the last two numbers together, its easy for me. Today we have also played a Wilson game called, Bulls Eye. We had to get beanbags into the hoops but in the order of the hoops.

Debating with Katie

This morning, after morning tea I went to Debating with Katie, one of the teachers at enrich. The topic was about if the cats at stewart island should be removed or cats should be allowed to stay. I was in the group of the cats should not be able to stay because they eat the birds. We didn't win the debate against                                         the other group. One of my group members' idea was to get rid of the cats because the birds will get extinct and kids won't learn anything about our native birds.

Art

This morning the Enrich students needed to choose a group. The choices were... art, maths and science. I like to paint so I chose art. We were doing a type of painting called impressionism.  The picture above is a scene from Claude Monet's garden.  He was a famous impressionist painter.  We tried painting a water lily pond today.

Term 2 assessment

Today enrich did a term 2 assessment sheet. It had all sorts of questions that we had to answer thinking about the whole term.


Today we have also played a Wilson McAskill game.  We got into groups of three and went into a triangle with a hoola hoop at the other side of the room.  We had to jump with little kangaroo jumps and we weren't allowed to take our feet apart.  We talked about how we could feel if we didn't make it, and how it is important to keep on trying.

Teacher comment

Pearl you have settled into enrich really well and are making the most of all the opportunities that are on offer. Chess

Every morning of Enrich the first thing we do is play chess. I'm no good at playing chess so I stay on the mat with Darryn for lessons. After we have our lessons we get to challenge someone on the leader board. This morning I challenged Katlyn.  We didn't get to finish the game because the music went off so we had to go down to the mat.  I think I was losing the game!


Colour blending sheets

Last week at Enrich we got given a sheet with colours on it. The three primary colours were Yellow red and blue. There were all other colours and we had to try and make them. Orange was the easiest colour to make because all you had to mix was red and yellow. I didn't get all of them done.

Today at Enrich

Today at Enrich we got into different groups to learn about perspectives. I was with Alana. We saw some video clips about the Cathedral in Christchurch.  The two teams had to give reasons for "The Cathedral should be demolished" and "The Cathedral shouldn't be demolished".  We had to think why we gave that reason, and also the different perspectives of different groups of people, for example the builders, the public and the government's different perspectives.
